Decatur Audubon Society
A Selection of Newsletter Articles
Among our members we have artists, poets, and writers. We have chosen to include here some articles and poems written by our members and some illustrations by members. Links below will take you to the full text of the article or poem, or to the listed drawings.
(On the original works in this section: drawings, articles, and poems, copyright is held by the author or artist. Please do not copy or reprint without permission. Please contact us if you wish to use this material.)
Pat Quintenz, one of our expert birders, has been a regular contributor to Decatur Audubon's newsletter for many years. Her wry sense of humor is a delight. Lois Rice, who died in August of 2008 just short of her 93rd birthday, was an artist, and a member of Decatur Audubon for more than 37 years. She lived on a farm, and even though she and her husband traveled, her pieces are often about the birds near her home in central Illinois. Lois herself did the illustrations for one of her swallows pieces. Ron Shafer, our published poet, has done book reviews and other prose for us as well as poetry. Myrna Deaton, another expert birder, wrote about the Black Skimmer seen near Lake Decatur. Expert (and determined) birder Ross Thompson's article tells of difficulties encountered on a trip to see eagles. We have other occasional contributors as well. Enjoy!
